SERVICES: Living Well with Dementia

Living Well with Dementia is a truly innovative programme for people with a recent diagnosis of dementia and non-paid carers of people living with dementia.  The aims of the programme are:

  • To help people to become more involved in their own individual care planning
  • To increase participation and encourage involvement in the wider design and development of services

Specifically, programme participants will gain:

  • A greater understanding of services for people with dementia
  • A greater understanding of networks and people involved in caring for people with dementia
  • Increased skills to shape services and challenge attitudes towards people with dementia
  • Increased self-confidence and self-awareness for wellbeing and to get involved

Delivered over 5 days, spread over a few weeks, there is flexibility built into the programme to cover specific locality information and use local expert speakers.

 Previous course participants have said:

“An excellent course, the presentation was great, questions were answered sometimes with practical help. The meeting with and talking things through with others ‘in the same boat’ was a great help.”

“I was a little sceptical when I first signed up for the course with my mum and dad. I work in the NHS and some of the courses we go on can be quite tedious and boring. We thoroughly enjoyed coming to all the sessions for this course and will be sad that they’re now over. Paul and Dave are excellent at running the course and made it really enjoyable to attend.  Was really nice meeting the others who attended the course and we all learnt from each other.”

“Having this contact with you and your programme helps us a great deal to turn X’s experience of dementia into something positive for both of us. Please do contact us anytime we can be of help. It is such an encouragement to know that our views are appreciated in this way.”
